GNU/Linux Command – HDPARM

hdparm — Get/Set Hard Disk Parameters.

Summary:

hdparm provides a command line interface to various hard disk ioctls supported by the stock Linux ATA/IDE device driver subsystem. You *MUST* read the man page completely, if you want to do anything else, apart from this examples.

Examples:
$ hdparm -i /dev/hda -- Display the identification info that was obtained from the drive at boot time. $ hdparm -I /dev/hda -- Request identification info directly from the drive and display in a new expanded format.
