GNU/Linux Command – IP (Part-1)

ip — Manipulate network device, routing and tunnels

Summary:
The ip is a swiss army knife command. It does many functions like assigning IP addresses to interfaces, for setting up routes and display configurations etc. In this part, we will see some of the link level operations using IP command.

Examples:
$ ip link -- Show the network link configuration. $ ip link show -- Same as above. $ ip link show lo -- Show only lo link. $ ip link show eth0 -- Show only eth0 link $ ip -s link -- Show TX, RX statistics $ ip -s -s link -- Show TX, RX, Error statistics. $ ip link set eth0 up -- Bring up the eth0 link. $ ip link set eth0 down -- Bring down the eth0 link. $ ip link set eth0 mtu 1400 -- Set new MTU value. $ ip link set eth0 txqlen 1000 -- Set new TX Q Length.
